Artificial Intelligence: Reshaping Society

We are honored to welcome back the founder of Lincoln Leads, Dr Heather Mann. Dr Mann is a Project Officer in the Education Sector of UNESCO where she works on issues relating to antisemitism, in the context of UNESCO’s programme on Global Citizenship. Her DPhil in History at Lincoln focused on Holocaust education. Dr Mann worked as a lecturer and outreach consultant at the Parkes Institute for the study of Jewish/non-Jewish relations at the University of Southampton, where she organised training courses for teachers in Holocaust education. Alongside her DPhil, Dr Mann researched the dynamics of conflict and identity in history education. She is a qualified as a teacher of secondary education and previously worked in schools in England and Germany.

Dr Kimberly Palladino is a Tutorial Fellow in Physics. An expert in liquid noble dark matter experiments, she currently works on the LZ experiment and the future XLZD experiment. In the past she worked at SNOLAB on the MiniCLEAN and DEAP-3600 experiments. She has held multiple experimental leadership positions, and has served as a grant proposal, journal article, and experimental operations reviewer in the field of dark matter. Besides working on her research, she finds science outreach and working to support work-life balance and inclusive collaboration building to be vital parts of her scientific career. She is a parent of two children.

Micon Garvilles completed her MSc in Pharmacology at Lincoln and continued her dissertation work in her DPhil, studying ion channel biology in fibroblast in the context of arthritis, funded by the Oxford Jack Kent Cooke International scholarship. Prior to Oxford, Micon worked as a scientist where she programmed robots for quality testing. She graduated with honours (Magna Cum Laude) from Rochester Institute of Technology with degrees in Biotechnology and Molecular Bioscience, Biomedical Science and Spanish Language. Recently, she completed an internship with a team of 5 people in a startup company where they designed enzymes using machine learning (ie AlphaFold, OmegaFold) and incorporated other AI tools in their pipeline. Micon values the use of technology to improve human health and environment. In her spare time, Micon teaches yoga and meditation, and enjoys outdoor sports activities.
